April 25, 2010

Morning News meteorologist Joe Furey participated in the Discover the Environment program for the New Britain public elementary schools April 12 - 14. Furey, who won an award from the City of New Britain last year for his involvement in this program, did his forecast live each day at 11 a.m. from Stanley Quarter Park. He then stayed to talk to the kids about his job as a meteorologist and - of course - the weather.

FOX CT News at Ten anchor Erika Arias spoke to a group of television production students at the University of Hartford on April 5. Arias discussed her career in journalism and her experience working in TV news.

The FOX CT/Hartford Courant team was out in full force on April 18 at the UConn women’s basketball championship parade held in downtown Hartford. Employees volunteered that day to hand out cheer cards and The Courant’s special commemorative section to the over 25,000 fans attending the parade.

On April 24, Hartford Courant columnist MaryEllen Fillo joined a panel of producers as a celebrity judge at the Goodspeed’s Norma Terris Theatre to help find Connecticut’s next big talent. The theater was looking for one little girl to play the role of “Lucky Little Radio Girl” in its upcoming production of “Radio Girl" July 29 - Aug. 22.

“For all the talk and dreams and the cheesy motto of turning Hartford into ‘New England’s Rising Star,’ it’s clear that many people still don’t have much use for Hartford. Now that’s a crime.” -- From Hartford Courant columnist Helen Ubinas’ April 15 column titled, “At Perez Trial, Jury Is ‘Out’ On City.”
