On Monday, July 26, FOX CT held an open call for its Connecticut Idol contest at Mohegan Sun’s The Cabaret Theatre. The winner, 27 year-old Henry Smith from Ellington, advances to the regional American Idol tryouts in New Jersey for an audition with an American Idol producer on August 3. The 150 Connecticut Idol hopefuls sang a cappella for one minute in front of a panel of local judges that included from left: Catherine Kalonia, director of marketing for Jorgensen Center of the Performing Arts; Julie Stapf, director of marketing and communications for Hartford Stage; Sarah French, FOX CT Morning News anchor; Trish Torello, WATR radio sales manager; Ashley Cavaliere, late night DJ from KC 101; and Michael O’Flaherty, resident music director of the Goodspeed Opera House.
